Rainy Days and Mondays

Localflooding_3 Choruses of "rain, rain go away" have not worked. Now there's a lake forming on Hamilton Road in Glen Ridge. Noah, bring your ark and two of every animal. This just in...

The National Weather service has issued a flood warning for the Passaic River at Pine Brook, Little Falls, Ramapo River at Pompton Lakes and Rockaway River at Boonton below reservoir.

UPDATE: Word earler this evening from a reader that flood waters reached all the way up the sidewalk to the post office steps in Glen Ridge. Careful driving during your morning commute. And send pictures.
Aren't you glad you weren't these folks filming today on Christopher Street near the former Marlboro Inn...

House Party Time

2004_zanesdan Ring, ring, doorbell ring, house party time. The under 6 set grooves to Dan Zanes and Friends (Zanes' videos, along with Laurie Berkner, are shown on Noggin). The Grammy-nominated Zanes, founder of the Del Fuegos, is performing at the Kasser Theater at Montclair State University on May 15. We suspect this will be a hot ticket, so book ahead.

Speaking of house parties, Baristanet may be having its own shindig sooner than you think. The particulars are TBA, but let us know if you'll be partying with us...

John Edwards Hair

John_edwards_hair_2Ok, the connection to Baristaville is tenuous, at best, still our good friend and Glen Ridge resident Liza Dawson sent us this song, written and performed by her friend Ron Minkoff (lives in Riverdale, NY but has season tickets to the Giants). We thought it might appeal to partisans on both sides of the aisle.

Stuck in This Barista Boy's Head

Because how often do you get this kind of honesty from someone at the top of his game?

"I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it yet they all yell 'Holla!'"

--Jay-Z - "Moment of Clarity

Martin's Lament

We picked this up over at Montclair Unmoderated. Martin Golan has a problem. Now you do too.

I make no excuses for this except to share the pain. A few days ago, someone hummed a song to me that has been haunting me since. Not haunt like a theme from a Mozart piano concerto might, or the eyes of a beautiful woman who passes on the street, but haunting like a kidney stone in the brain, like an itch.

In the spirit of camaraderie I'm offering this:

"Do you like pina colladas?
And to walk in the rain?
Are you not into yoga? (is that it?)
Can you --- something about "make my escape?"

I really apologize for ruining everyone's weekend.
Does anyone know the words (I've been trying to forget them for a few
decades)?
