April 4
...serving up your daily dish.
Photographer Scot Surbeck sent us this blooming forsythia composition taken over the weekend which has "get outdoors" written all over it...and a lot of us did just that. However, today's forecast for lower temperatures, wind, clouds and a possible morning snow shower tomorrow has chased away our spring fever and has us reaching for the mittens (again!).

Ace photographer Scot Surbeck, who took this picture of a raccoon skull yesterday in Montclair, wants to remind everybody that life is fleeting. Go smell the crocuses before they smell you.

It's hard to do this photo justice here, but if you click on the picture you'll see a bigger version of Scot Surbeck's panoramic shot of the Brookdale Park playground. The photo, shot Saturday afternoon, is composed of three images, electronically stitched together.

Here's the winner (hubba hubba!) Aidan Walsh of Dublin, via Cliffside Park, in 25:23.
The women's champion was Victoria Ganushina of New York in 29:06. The top Baristavillians were Elliot Frieder in 26:14 and Jennifer Edmond in 34:44, both of Bloomfield.
Always a classic, the man who started it all, Horace Ashenfelter, was on hand for the 8K race...

Scot Surbeck was at the Goodwill 5K Run/Walk today and from his photos, we feel like we were there, too.
The winner, with a time of 16:09, was Billy Bludgus, the cross country coach at St. Peter's in Newark. Surbeck says Bludgus had to leave before the awards presentation so he could coach his team this morning. Congrats to all who ran/walk and made a difference. More photos on the jump...

See anyone you know...?

... the geese will play. Edgemont Park, cleaned up for Veterans Day, is an avian haven. (Thanks to Scot Surbeck for the image and the caption. He counted 70 geese this morning.)
