May 5
...serving up your daily dish.
It's Cinco de Mayo, which most Americans associate with good parties and margaritas, not the 1862 Battle of Puebla. Here are a few places that are partying Mexican style - and a not so traditional fiesta as well. Arriba!
Senorita's Eater-beware: How many hot-hot-hot jalapenos can you wolf down in two minutes? Senoritas will be judging the eating contests: think crispy tacos, Ay Caramba mega-burritos, BYO Alka-Selzter. Tonight the parking lot will become a mexican cantina. Sponsors from Bacardi and Corona are contributing to the festivities with prizes. Margarita and beer specials, a D.J., salsa, salsa and more salsa. 285 Glenwood Avenue, Bloomfield. 973-743-0099.
The Office Beer Bar and Grill is pouring margaritas, Coronas with lime, and has a mexican menu, D.J. and mucho fiesta fun, 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. 973-783-2929.
Our friends at The Red Cheetah bodega have a different take on their fiesta: Their "Cinco De Mayo" party is spiced up with the International Fire Male Revue, and DJ Johnny Budz from KTU. Coronas, Margaritas, and Tequila shots on special all night. There's a complimentary Cinco De Mayo buffet in the Martini bar from 9-11. Entry for men to the 2nd floor at 10pm after the male revue, but "the Martini bar is open and men can wait downstairs while the ladies party upstairs." Ay-yay-yay! Doors open 7pm, show starts at 8pm, $20 at the door, $30 for VIP lounge. 499 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair. 21 and older/ID required.
you forgot to mention they are also giving away a trip for 2 for one week to Cancun not a bad give away i say

Did anyone find a pink silk scarf last night--Cinco de Mayo? I lost it somewhere between Mexicali Rose and Church St. (I was walking to see Cate & Band via Bloomfield Ave. past the Red Cheetah.) It's not valuable, but means a lot to me. Thanks. lmc

SENORITA'S IS THE BIG KAHUNA! I had the best cinco de mayo there(from what I can remember), the party in their parking lot kept going until about 12:00, then they moved it inside. I lost my wife, walking from senorita's to my car, it's not worth much but if anyone finds her, there's some sentimental value involved....
