April 14
...serving up your daily dish.
So we've got Stephen, Yogi, and Bobbi, that guy from Spamalot, countless soap stars -- and all of those famous authors...now we're about to have another famous celeb call Baristaville home. Rocker Warren Zanes who played in Del Fuego, and just released his second solo recording is moving here this summer. The Professor of Rock is leaving his “dream job” as veep of education and public programs at Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to be closer to family, reports The Plain Dealer. (Good to hear we're still the number one pick for some house hunters...) So we're hoping wondering, could Zanes' arrival mean a “School of Rock” is in our future? (Actually, we'd rather an occasional gig at Tierney's...) In the meantime, Zane brother, Dan, will play a concert at Montclair State University, April 30.

Probably off topic, but we caught the matinee of JERSEY BOYS on Wed....loved it. ( if I remember correctly, Bob Gaudio lived in Montclair for awhile many years ago)

Warren Zanes came out with an album in 2004 (maybe '05) and it was incredibly good. If you're one of thos people who likes to bitch "there's no good music anymore," go to Amazon and buy it. (The problem is that it that there is no good music ON RADIO anymore.)

Its "The" Del Fuegos; Boston garage band. Tasty RnR, but they never got their act into the big time. Remember them from some really grungy clubs in Cambridge - early '80s.

One time Dionne Warwick came in. She was moving here (Llewellyn Park)from Calif. She was driving a sleek Mercedes.
Anyway she came in, kind of in disguise.. jeans, sneakers, baseball cap pulled down in front. After some 20 mins or so, I went over & introduced myself "Hi! If you need help, just let me know" anyway another 20 mins or so, I said "Let me help you"
sooo she got a bunch of stuff for her 2 dogs, then gave me a $1,000 American Express check. WE just did a deposit. Her purchase was like $ 250.
So I looked at her.. said "Are you really who you say you are?" ;)
I didn't have change & asked her to come back when she was settled in.
She came back the next day!!!! All dressed up like she was going to a concert, w/ her 2 dogs. She paid me, showed me the 2 dogs, and said
"Thank you :) No one has ever done that for me"
Another time I'll tell my Michael Keaton story.... or Louis Zorich.

Don't forget the sports "celebrities" that also live in Montclair.

Frankie Valli and the boys back in the mid-60s got their Caddies repaired at the dealership that used to be on Glen Ridge Ave. One of them lived on Grove Street between Watchung and Chestnut, I believe. It may have been Bob. Jersey Boys was exhilarating, better than I ever expected having seen the real group early on, with Frankie hitting notes that are rarely heard.

Didn't realize Michael McGrath is a "local." He was great, stole quite a few moments. We saw Spamalot in previews last year, the same night Kirstie Alley bared her glittering chest to the audience, it was a fine evening all around.

Not sure Zanes is of "celebrity status"...but if he helps increase property value, so be it.
