Everything You Wanted To Know: Avian Flu

Currently there is no vaccine available against the Avian Flu. Trevor J. Weigle, Health Officer at the Bloomfield Health Department wants you to come to a community preparedness meeting to discuss  Avian Flu and pandemic flu. He'll explain how the Bloomfield health department is preparing for it, and what individuals can do to prevent it. Then there's a chance to clear up any misconceptions and get more info during a Q&A with a panel of health experts. You have two chances to attend:

Tonight, April 25, 7-9 pm: Watsessing School, Prospect and Locust Streets, Bloomfield.

Thursday, April 27, 7-9 pm: Fairview School,  Mongomery and Berkeley Streets, Bloomfield.

For more information: Bloomfield Health Department, (973) 680-4026.

Wipe out the Canadian Geece. They represent a 5th column for Avian Flu.

I don't see anything wrong with screening people who come over here from foreign countries, especially those countries with cases of avian flu.

What's especially scary to me are all of those illegal, undocumented workers streaming into the U.S, unchecked. Who knows what microbes they harbor?

Personally I think that all this hoop-la about the Avian Flu is a lot of hype. So far it has only spread to people in developing countries who had direct contact with sick birds. I realize there is a chance it could mutate to spread among humans but it's something that is poorly understood. And in my experience, anything touted so widely by the press before any actual danger usually turns out to be a dud. The dangers that really happen are always the ones we aren't expecting, not the ones we are.
