Sunday school kids at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton wrote in to the producers of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and their prayers for Beverly Turner of Irvington were answered. Turner has been a special mom to 18 adopted special needs children -- kids suffering from bi-polar disorder, autism and blindness, and in many cases, children who also came from homes where they were abused or neglected. Last September, Turner and the children lost their home in a fire. The Sunday school kids, as well as the Irvington mayor and Turner's neighbors joined together to help Turner. From the Star Ledger...
We sent that column all over the country to get people to write to the show," explained the Rev. George Orfanakos of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton. "We got 10,000 signatures."
He worked with a parishioner, Maria Serghides, a state social worker assigned to two of Beverly's children, and George Moshen, a friend, and Rachelle Burk, another social worker, to put together the 18-page application and DVD necessary to get Beverly's story to those who make decisions for the show.
The episode, “Turner Family,” will air during the 2006 season. The location address of the rebuild (rendered above) is: 79 Harrison Place, Irvington.
I love to read stories like this!
It's in direct contrast to what what portrayed on the Soprano's last night, i.e., The Luxury Lounge. It burns me up to see people who can well afford *swag* like Rolex watches and plasma TVs getting them for free.

I was actually just thinking about this family recently when watching the Extreme Makeover show. I had remembered reading about their plight and was thinking, now there's a family that could really use one of these new huge homes. So glad that something good is happening for them.

where are all of libs ready to congratulate our President? This weekend the Iraqi's, after a 4 month stalemate, formed a government and named all of the cabinet positions. Our country liberated Iraq from a killing dictator. The mainstream media will concentrate on anything they can to take the glare off of anything positive by the Bush Administration. The hypocracy of the pukes like Reid and Kennedy will only help to bring down our great country.

One of the workmen on that job in Irvington stopped by. He was telling me how good it is to see all the effort put towards helping someone in need.
