- Annual College Club of Montclair Used Book Sale “If you have never been to this annual used book sale – you have been missing a great event” says Adriana O’Toole. It’s a fundraiser for the club’s scholarship program, and a chance to load up on great collections, cookbooks, history books, etc. You can line up with all the booksellers today and pay $5 admission, or wait until tomorrow – Saturday - when it’s free. 9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Also throughout next week: Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday 2 – 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday, & Saturday, 10 –6. 26 Park Street.
- On T.V. - Two Dudes from Montclair: Dewar MacLeod, professor of history at William Paterson University in Wayne, will be featured on "One-on-One with Steve Adubato" tonight, at 6:30 p.m. on CN8-The Comcast Network. He will discuss “The Challenges of American Suburbia.” We're hoping that since suburbia is the subject, they might mention a certain book that we love.
- Phoenix Dance Theatre, one of Britain’s leading dance companies, comes to Baristaville for its American premiere at MSU. They’ll dance 2 programs over the weekend. - Stars of the Moscow State Circus - One night only -at Caldwell College, 9 Ryerson Avenue, Caldwell. Performances are at 5 and 8 p.m. Tickets available at the door. An adult admission is $22, but you get to bring three kids for free! Additional kids, $7.50. 973-228-4424.

- Spiritual Drumming Class, with nationally acclaimed jazz musician, Richard Reiter. For adults and mature teens, no musical training necessary. - Young Designers Spring Fashion Show, by Celia’s Chicas. Celia offers creative sewing workshops for young seamstresses, coaxing their design inspiration to emerge through pattern making and artistic sewing. According to a flyer I got at the book sale today, they're open until 9 p.m. tonight (Friday) but only from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

No, spellingbeefan. I was so turned off by the theme of "Mad Hot Runway", which I assume means 12-year-old tarting themselves up to look 18, along with the requests to donate your beach house for a week, or fine art or antiques (what about sewing lessons? or dog-walking services?)-- that I wouldn't go withinn a mile of this fund-raising event. It may have been wonderful, but the way it was marketed was a total turnoff.

So I went to that book sale and while I was looking through the postcards an old guy came in and explained about post cards and WWII. Then he left but it seemed as if he was planning to attack a place. Then he came back and looked through some postcards with me. He found one of a hotel in Bermuda and asked me how I would attack the place. So I went along with it but I was wrong. He told me how many men I needed to set up on the beach, how I should sneak in and get over the 2 foot wall, when I would be leaving with my men for this attack, etc. Apparently he's living in the past. It was a good experience though, because I like crazy people.

We went to the book sale today too. It's huge! I didn't expect anything nearly that big. Way cool!
I guess the crazies had left before we got there tho.
Barista, you got the hours wrong, they closed at 6:00 today. Lucky I dragged my butt out of bed early today or I'd really have been mad.
Also, they are open this Thurs & Fri till 9:00, and both are 1/2 price days.
Saturday is till 6:00 again and it's $5-a-bag day. Get yer bags while they last!

I went late to the sale, I put all these books on hold because I didn't have money with me (I just came from the Y) but I guess I'll try going back on Saturday for $5 a bag day. If they let me. Because spending $40 on books that could be $5 is ridiculous.

Cheeze, The books are put aside in a paper bag with my name on it waiting for me to come pay for it, and I was going to ask if I could just come back on Saturday and pay $5.
On another note, I overheard one of the ladies saying that a dealer came in and bought $3,000 worth of books yesterday, that's crazy.

They had some genuinely rare books in "Room 4" there. (Those will not be half price or $5 a bag.) I'm sure they had a lot more of them on Friday before the dealers got there. It's really one heckuva book sale.
Katie we got there even later than you did. I always take the record for being late wherever I go. Except when I'm delivering Italian food, people always say "Damn, that was quick!"
Sadly, I didn't find any books I wanted, except one that cost $450 & that's out of my league. But there are a couple dozen books waiting at my local library that I still want to read so I got no worries about running out.
