Does anyone know what happened to the link to the Montclair Times Classifieds?
How am I supposed to get to the good garage sales this weekend without it?

Try this link:
http://classifieds.northjersey.com/
Choose "The Montclair Times" from the Publication drop down menu, and "Estate, garage and yard sales" from the Category drop down, and then hit the Search button.

I miss having this as the Happenings link.
I used to look at it all week in giddy anticipation of the weekend. Can't we bring it back in that format?

laila, me too...I really liked being able to see the listings every day, not just on Fri. and having just to hit the link to get in...I second the notion to bring back the old format.

Did anyone see Bobbi B at Glenfield Friday night?
Posted by: spelling Bee Fan | Apr 1, 2006 12:10:02 AM
No, spellingbeefan. I was so turned off by the theme of "Mad Hot Runway", which I assume means 12-year-old tarting themselves up to look 18, along with the requests to donate your beach house for a week, or fine art or antiques (what about sewing lessons? or dog-walking services?)-- that I wouldn't go withinn a mile of this fund-raising event. It may have been wonderful, but the way it was marketed was a total turnoff.

I really miss the Happenings link too. I used to look at it throughout the week to plan my weekend. Please bring it back!

So I went to that book sale and while I was looking through the postcards an old guy came in and explained about post cards and WWII. Then he left but it seemed as if he was planning to attack a place. Then he came back and looked through some postcards with me. He found one of a hotel in Bermuda and asked me how I would attack the place. So I went along with it but I was wrong. He told me how many men I needed to set up on the beach, how I should sneak in and get over the 2 foot wall, when I would be leaving with my men for this attack, etc. Apparently he's living in the past. It was a good experience though, because I like crazy people.

We went to the book sale today too. It's huge! I didn't expect anything nearly that big. Way cool!
I guess the crazies had left before we got there tho.
Barista, you got the hours wrong, they closed at 6:00 today. Lucky I dragged my butt out of bed early today or I'd really have been mad.
Also, they are open this Thurs & Fri till 9:00, and both are 1/2 price days.
Saturday is till 6:00 again and it's $5-a-bag day. Get yer bags while they last!

I went late to the sale, I put all these books on hold because I didn't have money with me (I just came from the Y) but I guess I'll try going back on Saturday for $5 a bag day. If they let me. Because spending $40 on books that could be $5 is ridiculous.
Posted by: katie | Apr 1, 2006 8:29:32 PM
katie,
they won't let you. putting the books on hold and then going back to try and by them by the bagfull is cheating.
you are ridiculous!
Posted by: cheeze | Apr 1, 2006 10:23:47 PM
cheeze,
don't say mean things to Katie, she is a war widow.
Posted by: Iceman | Apr 1, 2006 10:35:02 PM
Iceman, come on don't say that shit it makes me nervous enough that he's there.
Posted by: katie | Apr 1, 2006 10:39:32 PM
no. katie is no war widow. she's just not an honest person.
i'm not mean. just tell it like it is.
they are on to your scam katie. your books will be sold before the $5 day
Posted by: cheeze | Apr 1, 2006 10:41:56 PM
Katie,
bad choice of words...i meant widow in the sense that he's away from you...i don't wish your hero any ill will. I admire how you stand by your man.
Posted by: Iceman | Apr 1, 2006 10:58:44 PM
Cheeze, The books are put aside in a paper bag with my name on it waiting for me to come pay for it, and I was going to ask if I could just come back on Saturday and pay $5.
On another note, I overheard one of the ladies saying that a dealer came in and bought $3,000 worth of books yesterday, that's crazy.
Posted by: katie | Apr 1, 2006 11:02:08 PM
And Iceman, that's the second time this week I mistook a word for meaning one thing when it meant another. Soooorry.
Posted by: katie | Apr 1, 2006 11:04:13 PM
katie, the old-fashioned term for your dilemma is, I believe (regardless of your marital status), a "grass widow."
Would-be cards will please refrain now from making jokes in the spirit of Tommy Chong.

They had some genuinely rare books in "Room 4" there. (Those will not be half price or $5 a bag.) I'm sure they had a lot more of them on Friday before the dealers got there. It's really one heckuva book sale.
Katie we got there even later than you did. I always take the record for being late wherever I go. Except when I'm delivering Italian food, people always say "Damn, that was quick!"
Sadly, I didn't find any books I wanted, except one that cost $450 & that's out of my league. But there are a couple dozen books waiting at my local library that I still want to read so I got no worries about running out.
