...serving up your daily dish.
If you haven't noticed...
Il Forno in Upper Montclair is closed for good. Their baked bread have not disappeared completely. They have decided to merge with their downtown location, on South Fullerton.
Coffee Club Cafe on Valley Road is no more. Signs in the window announce a new store coming, "Joe Bartoni's Italian Market."
And remember that new produce market on the corner of Broad and Watchung Aves in Bloomfield? Tomatoes and all other vestiges of the shop are gone, including the name on the awning, spray painted over in black.
On Bloomfield Ave., in Montclair, Sugar Free Sensations has also closed.

Coffee Club Cafe, that totally blows. I use to take all my hot dates there. It was a welcome to depature from Eclectic. Well, back to crying myself to sleep again.

CCC had good food and drinks but I didn't like the woman who ran it.

That place was doomed from the get-go. Location, location, location. The parking in back is not obvious enough (needs a big sign).

The produce market is now "Be Smart America" a real estate office. There are some homes in Bloomfield I notice listed by them. Mainly the one on the corner of Willard and Franklin St. (owned by the owner of this new real estate company).

I felt bad when the produce place opened -- the only hope for such a business to compete against "regular" supermarkets is high volume and a high-quality aura. The location offered neither.

Bummer about the produce stand, though it was always too out of the way for me to shop there.
How many months till the farmer's market starts again?

What about the store front on Grove st. near walnut. All it says is grocery store coming soon.
It's been that way for months now.

Gee, can't imagine why Sugar Free Sensations closed

As a person who watches sugar intake, I loved SFS! Nice couple who owned it, too. Sorry to see it go. No doubt some greed-infested chain store will take its place.

The Remedy said it will reopen in the spring. I hope it's true.
Posted by: donna | Mar 8, 2006 4:00:21 PM
The Remedy Cafe is in Bloomfield on Broad Street.
BTW-The Italian restaurant on Broad Street near the IHOP is closed but a sign states that it a new restaurant will take its place. Can't recall the name but I think cathar mentioned it in another thread.

What about Suzanne's in Watchung plaza? It looks like she's gone for good - they already have a new sign in front.

The owner of the Coffee Club was definitely exceptionally unfriendly and rude. Remedy is a good alternative to Ecclectic so I hope they do in fact reopen.

I didn't think the woman whoo owned the Coffee Club to be unfriendly. She was always not only nice but extremely accommodating

I agree about the owner of the Coffee Club Cafe. We went there twice and both times found her pretty rude, but also just annoying the way she lurks around. The first time we just had coffee and bagels, which was okay. The second time we went for fondue and it was bad.
I agree The Remedy is a nice cafe.

Didn't the owner of the CCC try to start a singles/dating thing at one time?
Posted by: Miss Martta | Mar 8, 2006 5:02:28 PM
Yes, Miss M., the owner of CCC did have a dating service of sorts going, with binders filled with photos and profiles. I don't know if it ever produced any matches or had any success.
Here, here, to the Remedy - I'll miss CCC, but I'll be straight-up despondent if Remedy doesn't reopen, that place is wonderful!!!
In Outer Baristaville, there's The Goat Cafe (formerly The Dancing Goat - why lose the Dancing...?) in South Orange, near the train station on S.O. Avenue. It's no Remedy, but it's a very cozy coffeehouse!

Coffee Club Cafe was good but I think their chef quit or something and they started cooking the food with their ass cause it really began to suck. Burnt food eh.

BTW I like Bonjour Montclair, if anyone is into cafe delish crepes mmmmm so oooo goododdddd.

Remedy was certainly an enjoyable place.
So what's Joe Bartoni planning to offer that Belgiovine's doesn't?
