March 3
...serving up your daily dish.
We recently received this note of thanks, and outreach from the dedicated folks at the Human Needs Pantry(HNFP), a gentle reminder that hunger is seasonless.
The Human Needs Food Pantry would like to thank the people of the greater Montclair community for their generosity to the food pantry over the holiday season. Between monetary gifts and food donations, you have made a difference in the lives of the hungry in our midst.
But hunger is a year-round problem, and once the holidays are over, we find that our shelves begin to get bare. At the same time, our food costs have risen, while donations to many local charities such as ours have fallen off slightly in the wake of disasters both at home and abroad that have commanded donors’ attention.
We ask that you consider making a donation of either money or food to the food pantry, which is located at 9 Label St. in Montclair. If you would like to organize a food drive—whether with your teenager for a community service project, your book group, your neighborhood, your office—please contact Eleanor Walter at [email protected] or Averil Brent at [email protected] for information.
Thank you for your ongoing support of a vital resource for the hungry in our community.
HNFP has been providing food to those in need for 23 years. They assist approximately 250 families every week. This month, the food pantry is requesting donations of tuna and rice. Donations can be dropped off any Tuesday or Thursday, 9a.m. - noon.

Our milkman, Angelo Scarano, is collecting money to provide eggs to the pantry in April - $2 for a dozen.

hate to shop, where do Angelo's eggs come from? I'm looking for local eggs. I'd be happy to chip in--where do you want the money sent?

BTW... we do have a donation box (looks like a Dog House) in our store.
Donations go to the Human Needs Pantry
for those who have pets but can use some extra help. Closed bags of food,
cans, perhaps a leash or collar or bowls that's been retired. Please NO beds or anything that has to be washed.
Many of our customers make generous donations.

Speaking on behalf of the food pantry, thanks to all who donate! Please remember to check the expiration dates on anything you give us--we can't give out expired food.
By the way, the milkman has been doing his egg thing for several years, which is terrific. Our clients really appreciate (and need) fresh, high-quality food.

The food pantry is at 9 Label St. in Montclair, which is between Forest St. and Depot Square--and if you're looking for landmarks, it's practically across from the motor vehicle inspection station, and down the street from the soccer dome and Richie Cecere's (for those following that story on barista...). The phone number is 746-4669, and donations can be dropped off any Tues. or Thurs. between 9 a.m. and noon.

I would love to help but I'm at work Tues. and Thurs. It would be great if you could accept donations on the weekend -- maybe arrange to be open one Saturday morning a month?

What, exactly, is the "community" in which the food is distributed? Montclair only or all of Baristaville? Just like to make sure my contributions help those in my own town though I have no problem helping others in need. Thank you!

The outreach towards the Human needs ministry is wonderful. In the past Tony's Kitchen have been recipients of contributions as well. Hopefully the wonderful work of continuing to feed the hungry three days a week will continue to be supported, along with the Salvation Army's continuing outreach to the hungry and poor of our neighborhoods. Tony's kitchen has a web site which will enable anyone interested in knowing more to easily access information. Thank you, Diana Lunin
