Grudge Match Over

Sharpeout_1

Shortly before 5, we heard reports that the AP had put out a one-sentence news item indicating that Sharpe James will not seek re-election as Mayor in May. CBS 880 had it first...

Sharpe's announcement to leave the race comes in the form of a letter to the city clerk, asking that his name be removed from the ballot. Expect more fanfare at a press conference today at 5 pm. We'll follow the story on both blogs. For more idetails, go to Grudge Match.

Thank god. It's high time someone with credibility and intelligence tried to help Newark finally get back on its economic feet. Hopefully Booker but at this point any sentient being would be an improvement. A bright day for the people of Newark and for all of New Jersey.

It's a start...

Any more word on why? Actually, I'm not that interested in why. Just Halleluia!! he's out of the running. The law needs to be changed regarding term limits. It just allows corruption to flourish when the same person is in office for THAT length of time.

Maybe they finally realized he rode in to drop off his ballots on a Newark Police bike. Is he supposed to be riding that?

I think its for the best. Time to move on.

The timing comes not a day too soon (and probably about 20 years late). Sharpe almost appears to be losing his mind these days.

Agreed...it's time for some new blood.

New blood and an audit.

Accord to the Star Ledger, in his withdrawl letter he claim he is leaving office with $400 million in Budget surplus.
