I'd love to hear different things each week.

Bluegrass, jazz, rock, old-time music.

When I was at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville had a "Fridays After Five" concert series downtown. They were great. People hung out, ate, drank, and had a great time.

Reggae - there's nothing better on a mellow sunday afternoon

Wahoo Wa, Dog Mom. I went to U.Va. too.

Posted by: The Barista | Mar 26, 2006 12:38:48 PM

No way!

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 12:39:31 PM

Have you been back? I was in the Dept. of Drama. CLAS 96

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 12:40:23 PM

Dog Mom is right. Sunday afternoons are pretty slow in downtown Montclair in summer. This might really help.

Two interesting possibilities: Walleroo could be a guest conductor with DOT. And Red Cheetah could donate its deejays.

Now, would there be plastic cups or glasses?

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 12:44:49 PM

My best friend went to U VA. Of course he's about 35 years older than you kids.

Posted by: crank | Mar 26, 2006 12:47:23 PM

We're an interesting lot.

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 12:48:15 PM

Woops, meant to add that my vote goes for electronic trance music. Smooth out those alpha waves....

Dog Mom, I was a first-year woman the third year they accepted women - back in the 70's. I visited this fall, and could barely navigate around C'ville - it had grown so much.

Oh yes, and I was Katie Couric's editor at the Cavalier Daily her first year. Taught her everything she knows!

Posted by: The Barista | Mar 26, 2006 12:56:37 PM

I always preferred the Cavalier Daily because it had the NY Times crossword.

I graduated a year before Tiki & Ronde Barber.

BEZERKER!

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 1:00:03 PM

Just so long as it's at acceptable sound levels...

When the Siena had their "concert" you couldn't hear the phone INSIDE my Church Street studio.

Dog Mom and Barista: Go 'Hoos!

Posted by: Jim | Mar 26, 2006 1:01:05 PM

Jim, are you a wahoo as well?

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 1:01:47 PM

What's wrong with "all of the above"?

Posted by: Bitpusher | Mar 26, 2006 1:04:28 PM

My real alma mater is Montclair State, but my adopted alma mater is UVA (my dad is a graduate and we meet almost every year for a football game at Scott stadium). I dearly miss the 'ol Pep Band ...

Posted by: Jim | Mar 26, 2006 1:06:17 PM

So does everyone else. No more Pep Band.

Posted by: Dog Mom | Mar 26, 2006 1:07:32 PM

They were yet another thing that made UVA unique. They just fit the university somehow. Perhaps it was the grand UVA football tradition (at least under George Welsh) of choking on a 30-zip lead, or the tradition of wearing flasks attached by garter belts to fool the "Bourbonator," but the motley Pep Band had personality.

I want to listen to me drinking free beer, tell Tom Lonergan to get that going too.

Posted by: katie | Mar 26, 2006 1:23:00 PM

Sunday afternoon is the worst time to promote ( IMHO ) Church St. during the summer with music.

Take the lead from Cate, who has played there on either Fri. or Sat. nights, with huge crowds.

Sunday in the summer is for getting away.
Just my observation.

No more Pep Band?!

What are Manny, Moe & Jack up to now??
