March 7
...serving up your daily dish.
Today's the publication date for Montclair scribe Pam Satran's newest novel, "Suburbanistas," which will have particular resonance for denizens of Baristaville. Set in a Montclairesque town called Homewood, "Suburbanistas" is about, among other things, a controversial local developer whose name will have a familiar-sounding ring to those who follow the pages of Baristanet: Henry Sladowski. The book is well worth buying, we'll add, for the funniest bad sex scene in literature.
Many people know Satran as the empress of MEWS, a listserv that unites Montclair's literati. She will read from "Suburbanistas" at Watchung Booksellers on Thursday night at 7 pm.
I had the opportunity of meeting Pam at another book signing gig a few days ago, held in a lovely neighbors' home here in Montclair. Also there, to sign copies of her new book, Rattled, was our own Barista, Debra Galant.
A fine gathering of friends and family, and more goodies from Nicky Mesiah. You can look for a special segment on a future broadcast of Inside Montclair on Tv - 34 covering this great day.
The current episode, now airing, has a segment highlighting the book signing at Watchung Booksellers by Debra for her new book, which was held last week.
You go girls...and let us all support our local authors.

Wayne -- new guy in town here so I have a couple of questions. Why is the reception so crappy on Channel 34. Where are the studios that Comcast broadcasts from? On what format do you broadcast your show? How long you been doing this? Thanks, mate

aussie....I'll do my best here..I have been producing Inside Montclair for over 9 years, as an independent producer
to be aired by our public access channel, Tv - 34...Years ago, when I was also a volunteer for the station, we used to produce programs, which were taped in Montclair High School, on a regular basis - which was halted about 5 years ago ( thats another story ).
The community of Montclair does not have a production studio, nor does Comcast provide such...we do however, have a broadcast center, located in town hall, where all shows that are submitted get aired.
Please note, I don't work for Tv - 34, I, like anyone else from town, can produce their own program, and then submit it to the station for consideration for airing, which is up to
the station manager.
The quality ( both video and audio ) has been a bit weak ( I'm being kind here ) from time to time. I do know however, there are many new changes just around the corner..there are people who now realize the importance of having a public access station that has good broadcast abilities.
The current format for tapes to be broadcast is VHS...both Mini D , and DVD's, I ubderstand, will be possible in the near future.
Again, just my own observations..you should contact Tv - 34 for more info about the status of things to come, and what the rules are if you wish to produce your own program.
Hope that helped...Wayne
ps. Inside Montclair airs -- Mon. Wed. Fri. at 8:00pm
