...serving up your daily dish.
Although the tips were few, furtive, and unsubstantiated, Baristanet was on location last night at the Montclair Kings Supermarket on Valley Road, to confirm that part of the final episode (#12) of the final season (#6) of The Sopranos was being filmed.
We spoke with a couple of film director wannabees, we spoke with the police, the sushi chomping crew, and finally the Location Manager, Regina Heyman – who, turns out is a Montclair native. “It’s just a short shopping scene, you’ll recognize King’s” she said. And we can’t tell you where we heard it, but Juliana Margulies is one of the shoppers.
Tony and Carmella were not expected for this scene. At 10 pm filming hadn’t started yet, but it was a long day for the cast and crew – about 110 people – who had been shooting earlier in Newark, and just up the road (exterior shot) at Valley Regency Caterers. Regina told us that this season, they had been to Bloomfield, and returned several times to shoot interior scenes in the Bierman Home in Montclair's South End.
Can't wait for March 12? Count down with our favorite Soprano watcher, Soprano Sue, who's offering a book giveaway contest on her Soprano Sue Sightings site.
Check out this blurb from Advertising Age:
HBO literally wants to help viewers find their way to the season premiere of "The Sopranos," which returns March 12 after having been off the air since May 2004. The cable channel's interactive agency, Deep Focus, has inked a deal with Google Maps to plot important locations from the show as part of a major Web push that includes ads in Gawker and The Smoking Gun.

New drinking game: drink everytime there is a recognizable Baristaville location/reference in the Sopranos.

Juliana, I'd recommend the rib-eye, and the Cascadian Farms granola in aisle 8. Yours affectionately, Walleroo. PS I love you

22 months later - I have no idea where the story left off!
I miss Deadwood and swearen' Al Swearengen, talking to his Indian Chief Head in a box while taking shots of whiskey....that's hot!

On my way home last night I passed by The Valley Regency and there was all sorts of equipment and lighting and whatnot. I can only assume it was part of a related shoot.

oh god it's the last season? I knew it was but I was trying to imagine them going on longer. I'm only coming up to the end of season 3 now (it's been non stop Soprano's for 3 weeks now) but I am in love.

Yeah, 22 months that I paid for HBO and never watched anything on it, waiting for the Sopranos.

I definitely felt int the end that Tony would get wacked by his wife Carmella in a domestic dispute -because of the ironey...so much time has past now I am uncertain--but I still think it would be amusing.

22 months paying for HBO waiting for the Sopranos? Wouldn't it be easier to just pay for Netflix and rent it when it comes out on DVD a few months later?
Or just have someone you know tape or tivo it and you could buy the pizza and go and watch it. A lot cheaper than the cost of HBO. Check out their documentaries. They are pretty cool.
Also, wouldn't those who live near Kings be quick to point out that the area is NOT Montclair, as was stated in the write up, but UPPPER Montclair ??
You know how uppity those UPPERs are!
