...serving up your daily dish.
Two more restaurants join Montclair's growing "For Sale" club. On the market, and steps away from each other, are Royal India ($210,000) and Cafe Sultan ($150,000).
Meanwhile, on Grove Street storefront, north of Walnut, we spied the sign...

"Gourmet" is one of those words that is hardly ever used correctly. Kind of like "liberal." Whenever a restaurant, food shop, TV show, or cookbook claims to be "gourmet" my initial response is to say "oy vay" then run the other way.
Of course, one man's Mead is another man's Persian.

Perhaps this reflects the oversaturation of restaurants in the area?

Conan,
I agree with you 100 percent. The word "Gourmet" is abused and has lost it's meaning over the last 10 years.

That plaza is a bad location for restaurants -- not much foot traffic. Has anyone tried Royal India? How does it compare to the various Indian places on Bloomfield Ave?

Is that plaza the parking lot area behind the train where Lotsa Pasta use to be?

I can see that there's not much foot traffic back there, but thet steakhouse seems to do a fine business.

Finally got to try Cuban Pete's last night. I likey!
Even though it was a Thursday night, we didn't have to wait long for a table for 2, about 20 mins. (It took longer to find a parking space!)
Cute decor, great food (although the Cuban friend I went with thought the selection of entreess could be bigger) and decent service.
Our only complaints:
1. Please turn the music down a notch. Since your walls and floors are hard surfaces, the sound reverberates everywhere.
2. Your whole liquor license thing is confusing. We brought wine with us because we were told there was no liquor license. Well, when we were seated, we were told that they do have a license for sangria but not all of the sangrias listed on the menu were available. And, while the one I had was tasty, it didn't seem as if there was enough alcohol in it. I barely tasted it and after 3 glasses, I was as sober as I was when I arrived. :-)

Cafe Sultan is such a great place, one of our favorites. I'd hate to see it close. The food is consistently good but the location is tough.
