Saw a group of them a week ago Sunday on South Mountain in Montclair, just down from Eagle Rock reservation. Fascinating birds, as anyone who has ever hunted them knows. I believe it was Ben Frankin who wanted wild turkeys to be the national bird, rather than the bald eagle. Guess he lost out to the hawks.
