Ignoring the murder. The real shame of it is that Porno Hate Train does not represent the entire student body nor do Baristanet commenters represent the entire body of Barista's regular audience. If this murder too goes unresolved, then perhaps PHT wasn't entirely wrong about the usefulness of the GRPD ;)

With an approaching 6-10 snowstorm, how do my fellow baristavillians cope with a snow day? I like to make a pot of chili, fire up my favorite jazz cds and then hunker down with an escapist novel.
How do you cope?

I love the snow Iceman!
I cope by sitting in the window and watching it fall, listening to the little hiss made by each flake as it touches down.
If it's too deep, too messy or too slippery to drive then I cope by calling out of work - and spend the day bundled up and walking around town.
If you pass a girl covered in fleece, smiling as she wades through the snow wave to me.

Butch,
storm is approaching from the west and is expected to hit between 3-5 am with 6-10 in northern jersey and 3-5 in the city.
My name is The Iceman and I'm hooked on the Weather Channel...help.

Iceman, put down the remote and slowly walk away from the TV. The Weather Channel has been known to destroy brain cells. ;-)

Iceman, are you sure about that? I thought it was going to be nothing.
I usually have a "BLIZZARTY" when we get snowstorms. Basically, my friends and I coordinate a place to meet and we have a sleepover with lots of alcohol, and we keep the fire going all night. Good times!

Thanks Diane...I am starting to babble about barometric pressure and isobars

I work with a weather geek (the dude actually has a degree in meteorology). We should expect 4-8 in Montclair. Might finish as a mix so the afternoon commute tomorrow is really going to be messy. I suggest you dress in fleece and go shopping instead of working ;)

I love snow. I especially love that smell in the air when a winter storm is coming. Don't know if it's charged particles like ions during a thunder storm but you can feel it and smell it coming.
hrh, if you find yourself in the neighborhood I highly recommend a walk through the Bloomfield cemetary. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places around, even without snow.

NY Times headline: "'Today' Marks 10 Years on Top."
It's always about NBC's pleasure!

Iceman,
Check out The National Weather service online.

If you're really into it, at the bottom of the page they have a link to the forecast discussion.

Ice, I know what you mean. I started with Wheather Channel but now I've gotten into the real hardcore stuff - weather boards and chats. I know, I admit it, I'm a weather geek, but I've come to terms with my affliction.
My favorite is Tri-state Weather
...http://p209.ezboard.com/ftristateweatherfrm7. They are pretty serious, and have a few local meteorolgists that post, but it's fun to read and learn. And you get the scoop on the forecasts in detail that you just won't get on TWC.

State Street,
Weather online is addictive. I spend way too much time at tri-state. Joe Bastardi is great, although sometimes I think he indulges in a bit of wishcasting with his snow totals!

Yeah sharky, there seems to be a lot of that there. But being a snow freak myself I understand why it happens. I imagine I'd do the same thing if I had a clue. When I'm not lurking here I'm lurking there. I post the occasional odd comment as essexcountypete.
A NOAA met just posted his forecast. He says Essex gets 6-8" with no mix.

wow, weather geeks on barista. Now I'll never get any work done.
hmmm.......I guess NWS hasn't updated yet, they're still saying 3-6 for us. Is that NOAA update from Upton?

You're a hardcore Weather Channel fan if you remember names like Cheryl Lemke and Sharon Resultan.

Let it Merlot let it Merlot let it Merlot.
I hope the neighbors will be entertaining.

Well Kevin, if your neighbors don't entertain you, then you should entertain the neighbors!
I can see the Barista headline now….
Man found chasing geese and eyewitness news reporters with a bottle of Merlot under one arm and a copy of The Idiots Guide to Writing in the Snow under the other.
