Yesteryear: La Prima Donna stepped into her leather. She was restless, she knew it in her heart of hearts. Tonight she'd pull herself together, cause tonight she'd pull herself apart.
Going to the Wild Places.....
2006: La Prima Donna steps into her flannel jams. She was tired she knew it in her heart of hearts. Tonight she'd read her almost 5 year old "Where the Wild things Are"--and fall deep into slumber before the ball hits it's mark.

Crank - you have a lucky cat. Go buy a lottery ticket based on the numerology of your cat's name and collect untold millions. I know the cat screwed up your Christmas trip, too, but that could have been a dancing lesson from God; go buy the ticket. Happy New Year to you, too!
We are joining the Iceman and 20 or 30 of our most intimate friends to hear jazz, have dinner, and imbibe in the bubbly at The Cloverleaf in Caldwell. Limo home. The hell with the snow.

Twice in my life, bloody twice!, I've been in the can for part of this evening. With luck like that, it's best to simply stay home and be contemplative, perhaps listen to Henryk Gorecki or Krysztof Penderecki-type doleful stuff and swill vodka neat. I am, however, tempting fate by going tonight to see Kreski and that unregenerately pinko folkie Richie Havens.

both... 10 people at our place for "pre-party" drinks and appetizers, then we're going to see Thelonius Monk Jr at Cecil's Jazz Club in West Orange.

Iceman, I'm hardly a conservative, but perhaps you were being ironic. At any rate I do strive to be compassionate.
And it looks like I'll have to fly to St Louis next week to help my mom with some things after a brief hospitalization. Cstarling's words, that sometimes you find you are where you need to be, come back to me now.
Cathar, sorry to hear about your innards there. Perhaps a liberal dose of vodka will be the ideal remedy.

I'm taking it easy this New Years Eve & Day. I literally broke in the 2005 New Year when I was skiing in Killington, VT and an outta control skier tackled me to the ground breaking my leg(fracturing my tibial plateau). January 5th, I had surgery @ UMDNJ where a titanium plate, five screws and bone chips were placed in my left leg. Needless to say-it's been a long road of recovery, but I'm ready to take it easy to reflect on the year and focus on my recovery. May everyone that reads this posting have a healthy and happy New Year!

Miss Martta, good luck with the run. I have a friend who did that for several years, when she was younger & running regularly. She always raved about it as one of the best experiences that New York has to offer. I bet it will be particularly magical tonight with the snow. Just watch your footing!

This is my 3rd year doing this run. It's more of a fun run than a serious one so I won't be running like a wild woman. Then off to a diner for chicken soup!

Happy New Year, everyone!
Earlier this evening, I killed time on really exciting end-of-the-year stuff ... copying info from my 2005 calendar to my 2006 calendar ... figuring out how many days (116) and miles (758) I ran this year ...
I'm ready for 2006! I will start it off with an 8 a.m. group run from Fleet Feet to the 9/11 Memorial at Eagle Rock and back.

We walked to Gaffer's (a local bar & grill in WO), ate, and returned home to a Todd Solondz movie (Palindromes.) I awoke on the couch at 12:10am, kissed my husband, and promptly zonked out.
Gym this morning (as all mornings) and a good breakfast somewhere.

Time to start the body's rinse cycle...remove the chocolate, alcohol and assorted carbs...ok, but I like the idea of starting it with a greasy cheeseburger and gravy on the fries.

In the dual category of "Uh, what I really meant...." and proofreading: When I wrote that I spent two New Year's Eves (in my somewhat misspent youth) "in the can," I meant in jail for all or part of New Year's Eve. I didn't write "on the can" and I meant exactly what I wrote.
Now that's cleared up,I both thank others for their concerns and earnestly hope all had a grand time on the Eve and will have an even grander 2006.

I'm sorry to hear about the Killington, VT incident. I don't ski there because your story seems to be a usual one.
If you dare brave another hour drive I highly recommend Mt. Mansfield in Stowe, VT. The hour drive helps thin out the crowds, and the town is like a mini Montclair - loaded with great restaurants and shops.
