NOW SERVING MONTCLAIR, GLEN RIDGE AND BLOOMFIELD
daily dish

December  23

Dark and Darker

For the second time in a week, the area around Watchung Ave and Broad Street in Bloomfield has been hit by a power outtage. This time, the area in the dark is the block that includes the IHOP, a bagel store, Annie's Nails and a gym.

Power went out in Upper Montclair (north of Mt. Hebron, south of Normal, for certain) for less than a minute at 6.15. It has since been restored.

Power out in parts of Upper Montclair between Grove & Park north of Belleview starting ~6:00 PM for 50 minutes.

Does any one know what caused the outages? I was involved in the one earlier this week. Very unnerving, especially since I never got around to buying a flashlight...

I've seen THREE lightposts that have been knocked down in the past 5 days. One was at the corner of South Park & Bloomfield a few days ago...the other was in front of my apt at Pine St (across from Bay station). The other was yesterday around N. Fullerton and Bloomfield. Odd!

There was a news story a few weeks ago that thieves have been cutting down lightposts in the metro region & selling them for scrap metal. They got nearly 200 lightposts in the last year.

Maybe there's a Jersey crew that isn't quite as good at it as the New York bunch?

In the Fairway section of Upper Montlcair, we've had 2 black outs in the past week. The first time, it ruined everything I was baking for the holidays. Last night, it happened as we were stringing lights on the tree.
OH WHAT FUN IT IS TO TRY......
to decorate by candle light!
NOT.
Also yesterday, in the parking lot behind Montclair Charbroil ETC. There was a power line half down, and half the parking lot was closed.
YIKES!

Okay, make it three times in a week. Power off Christmas Eve from 9:00 to 9:25 pm, on briefly, then off for another 5 minutes. Grove Street from Belleview north no street lights or traffic lights; blocks without lights between Grove and Park. Anyone know how to reach a human behind the telephone menu at PSE&G?

Power was out in Upper Montclair for at least 90 minutes Christmas Eve from 8.15 until close to 10pm. Must have been awful if you were having dessert, doing the dishes, or hosting a party.

If anyone's learned the cause(s) of these 3 electrically-challenged events, please share?

Posted by: Matt | Dec 25, 2005 10:36:41 PM

I've notice these events as well. Maybe someone should put a call in with PSE&G.

We had another brief power outtage in the middle of the night last night, so I up and called PSE&G. I was told someone would get back to me later on today as to the cause(s) of the 4 (!) recent electrically-challenged-events but I have yet to hear a peep...
