Some lucky Baristanet reader will win four tickets to MOC Musical Theater's production of "The Wizard of Oz," which runs this weekend and next.
Baby boomers will remember that "The Wizard of Oz" came on TV once a year, every year -- a very big deal for kids in the pre-video world. Which network aired the movie annually, and what years was it on TV?
CBS aired the Wizard of Oz on television, starting Saturday, November 3, 1956 and ended Friday, May 8, 1998. hope that's right, I LOVE the Wizard of Oz

One of the best Thanksgivings involved a group of friends. I rented WoO to amuse the children, but it scared them. The evening ended with the last half dozen adults watching the movie. One couple knew ALL of the words.

As a freshman in a college dorm, we could not get television reception and had to watch "group tv" in a lounge. Not wanting to risk someone getting there first and watching something else, I took the annoyinginly slow, crowded two and a half hour bus ride home to watch the Wizard of Oz!!

A true classic! I believe it aired in March and, every year, I couldn't wait! I, too, can recite almost every line and the lyric to every song...and I don't do a bad Wicked Witch of the West either!! One year I dressed as Glinda, for the school Halloween parade when I was a classmom! We had a classmom for almost every character.

We sat next to the set when Danny Kaye explained that the picture would turn from B&W to color when Dorothy arrived in Munchkinland - just like it had in the movies - and then danced away! (What did we know from Dorothy on the Big Screen?) And we ran from the room when the Wicked Witch of the West had her closeup. Oh, Auntie Em!!!!!
