Scot Surbeck was at the Goodwill 5K Run/Walk today and from his photos, we feel like we were there, too.
The winner, with a time of 16:09, was Billy Bludgus, the cross country coach at St. Peter's in Newark. Surbeck says Bludgus had to leave before the awards presentation so he could coach his team this morning. Congrats to all who ran/walk and made a difference. More photos on the jump...

See anyone you know...?

That 9-year-old kid (#293) beat me by 40 seconds!
The photos really capture what a picture-perfect morning it was. By all accounts, too, the course was scenic and great for running. The volunteers, from both the
Goodwill Mission and the Essex Running Club, made it all happen, and hat's off to Race Director Aubrey Blanda!
300+ runners for an inaugural race is fantastic!

Gee, I'm blushing at all the wonderful and enthusiastic comments I've received about the Goodwill 5000 Meter Run. In the works since last April, this race has been a 24/7 job in the last few weeks, and I'm thrilled to hear that the effort has been rewarded! Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and the enthusiasm of our participants and spectators, the race raised about $4,800, and countless bags of canned goods, for Goodwill Rescue Mission of Newark, a homeless shelter, food pantry, and counseling center.
Here's to the Goodwill 5000 Meter Run 2006!
