...serving up your daily dish.
This just in....
Bloomfield Avenue in Verona – where they are doing the bridge construction by the park – is closed in both directions until further notice because of a street cave-in or collapse. This is already a pretty jammed spot, so anyone needing to go there should take some extra time.

It's the bridge between Lakeside Dr and Cumberland, right before Pleasant Valley Way. They started work on it last week and b/c it is in such disrepair and the weather has been awful, it collapsed. Traffic is being divereted down Cumberland. What a mess!!!!

Thanks for the tip! That's really terrible...I travel between Caldwell and Bloomfield almost everyday!

Dana,
I also live in Caldwell...is the town big enough for both of us!

This bridge collapse was brought to you by Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. Putting your Essex County tax dollars to work.
I'm yet to see that sign.

I was walking in Verona Park on Sunday which was the first time I saw this construction (the entire street had not collapsed yet). My question is, does anyone know of there was major flooding in the park? At the end of the park closest to Bloomfield Ave there were strange mossy clumps of something hanging off of the lower branches of the surrounding trees. The only way I could figure this stuff getting there was for the water to have risen and left it there when it drained. It certainly made me curious!

Frosty, I know that's not true, but if you're looking to relocate, may I suggest Essex Fells? It's a beautiful area, and you certainly wouldn't face any of that "discrimination" you encounter in Montclair.

LOL Subscribbler: looks like somebody's brother-in-law's cousin's best friend shouldn't have gotten the contract. I wonder who we have to grease to fix it?

Dana,
Thanks for looking out for me but my Dad is a member of Essex Fells Country Club and visiting is fine for me. Caldwell works for me.

Well, what idiot begins such a construction project during hurricane/rain season to begin with? Where are people's brains these days...sheesh! Also, there's less traffic during the summer months (kids are out of school, people are away on vakay, etc.) So what wait until fall?

I would assume that they waited until the construction at Bloomfield and Prospect Aves was complete. It would have been a huge mess if both projects were happening simultaneously (not that it's not a huge mess now)!

I got stuck in that detour from hell yesterday and wound up being rear ended by a landscaping dumptruck! Today I fought midtown traffic in NYC both ways and feel like I'm in a walking coma! A house in the country is starting to looking better & better! The hell with Essex county and environs!

p.s. Wait til they start the destruction of the midtown direct bridge on Bloomfield Ave. on the border of GR & Montclair by the carwash. You ain't seen nothing yet, even though they promise to keep a lane open in each direction. Hope for the best, expect the worst!

This afternoon I took my daughter to the doctor's office on Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. It was OK going because I got alternate directions from GR. But going back, I hit four different detours and a trip that normally takes 15 minutes took me 90 minutes...I was ready to abandon the car and take the bus home with my kid.

Road construction and traffic is temporary. A house in the country is permament. You will miss the urban vibe of Baristaville. Don't do it.

I also got stuck in that mess yesterday on my way to an appointment in Caldwell. As soon as you were diverted from Bloomfield Ave., the backed up traffic was stopped dead. The police were manning the roadblock on Bloomfield, but you were made to fend for yourself once you hit the back roads. There was no one controlling traffic along the detour, and no signs, so it was bedlam.
