NOW SERVING MONTCLAIR, GLEN RIDGE AND BLOOMFIELD

You Lookin' At Me?

Tony_soprano_2 Yeah, Mr. Gandolfini, we're lookin' at you. And just wait til the kids get off school in about an hour.

All Glen Ridge is abuzz about today's Sopranos shoot, which involves some kind of altercation between our favorite suburban mob boss and a roofer. (But the way a Mark TIrandola truck came barreling through a red light at the intersection of Washington and Ridgewood -- presumably waved through by a cop we couldn't see -- it looked like a real altercation might have been in store. It wasn't.) Could this lead up to Tony's visit at an x-ray center, already filmed in Clifton?

Driving by the shoot today, I couldn't believe how many trailers, trucks and equipment there was.

I remember when they filmed Mona Lisa Smile in Glen Ridge with big name stars Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles and Maggie Gyllenhal and there weren't half that many trailers in town...

The Sopranos is so 2002 at this point.

Coming south on Ridgewood Avenue today, and tried to turn right on Washington to pick up my kid at day care. GR Police said "No!" you can't even GO west because we're too busy pampering these tv idiots. I don't care how many people watch this show, my kid has to wonder why I'm late because Gandolfini's trailer doesn't want any drive-by traffic? Does Glen Ridge really need this? I haven't seen any indication that the Sopranos have lowered my taxes ...

Based on your reference, I thought there was going to be some hit on the Tirandola driver. These guys constantly park in front of my house - we are talking several times a day. They park in front of my house so much that I am thinking of charging them for the space and they can pay me in painting. Maybe I'll call Tony while he is in town!

Sounds like Montclair/Glen Ridge has been a hot movie site for 70 years. I saw this bit on history on a Oscar Micheaux Yahoo newsgroup posting today.

Fred in MN

According to Lorenzo Tucker, the leading man in “Veiled Aristocrats,” some of the exterior and interior shots of that film were taken in front of and inside the house at 55 Greenwood in Montclair. Apparently a number of Micheaux’s films were shot at the old Fort Lee studios in New Jersey.

After years of telling people "I just built the web site... there are others (like Marty K__) who know a lot more about Micheaux than I do." ----- finally there's a question I feel qualified to answer.

In 2001, Richard G__ provided me with a copy of the wedding license for Micheaux' 1926 wedding which I shared with the Micheaux community at http://bartonarts.org/micheaux/source/wed1926.html

On that license, I noticed the bride's home was listed as 55 Greenwood Avenue, Montclair, NJ.

That summer, I was in northern NJ so I went to that address and took a photo which I posted at http://bartonarts.org/micheaux/places/montclair.html

Upon posting that picture, I received e-mail telling me that the picture was of a house that had appeared in some of Micheaux' films.

Therefore, in answer to the question of whether any of his films were shot in NJ, I feel safe in answering in the affirmative.
