Not What We Wanted to Be First In

News out today that Essex County has the highest per-capita cancer rates in the state of New Jersey. Nearly 40 of every 100,000 residents in Essex County die of cancer annually, compared to 33 of every 100,000 statewide.

The complete state profile on Essex County is here. (PDF)

While the health statistics are shocking it clearly signals the need for a public health approach to address this crisis.

The problem will not go away by itself.

As a proactive solution there is a need for a universal health care system that would ensure acceess for all Jerseyites to basic preventive health care services.

I wonder where our two gubernatorial candidates stand on this issue?

"Franklin," Corzine has a miraculous plan for low-cost public health care. But you'll have to ask his ADC, Matt Stoller about that one. You'll also have to get him to come out of his shell to do so.

And to do that you might even have to unveil yourself, since Corzine loyalist Matt has evidenced a distinct shyness to debating Baristanet posters so far.

Corzine is getting his beard trimmed and Forrester is lobbying in DC

Should one assume that Doug Forrester has no plan?

Interesting article. This sentence below really doesn't surprise me as many of these farms are treated with toxic chemicals.

"For example, rural Hunterdon County, with its rolling hills and acres of farmland, had more females diagnosed with breast cancer, 158.1 per 100,000 people, than the state's average of 138.5 per 100,000."

both candidates only plan is to win...they will wing it from there

I don't think Matt Stoller would have any qualms about debating Franklin.
