...serving up your daily dish.
You've got to love a press release that mentions Thomas Edison and Fountains of Wayne in the same sentence. What links them is their inclusion in a just-announced New Jersey Music Hall of Fame, coming to Asbury Park next summer. Edison's there for inventing the phonograph. Fountains of Wayne ("Stacy's Mom") represents New Jersey's new wave. In between: Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, the Four Seasons, Bon Jovi, and of course Bruce Springsteen. Thanks to Baristanet reader (and Hall of Fame board member) Ken Shane for bringing it to our attention.
Thanks for running this Deb. If anyone would like to help out, please contact me. You can also visit our website at: http://www.njmusic.org.

I'm so glad to see two of my favorite singer-songwriters on the list: Richard Shindell and John Gorka, who were classmates/bandmates at Moravian College. Both have at least one Jersey-related song: RS - "Transit" from "Somewhere Near Paterson" and JG: "I'm From New Jersey" from "Jack's Crows." I don't know where or if she fits into the scheme of things, but Lisa McCormick should be in there just for her song "Jersey Shoretown Bar".

Just to be clear, the list on the web site is not a Hall of Fame list, but rather a short list of NJ musicians. The Hall of Fame inductions will begin later this year.
