Bikers Take Over Montclair

Biketour6_2Close to 450 people -- young and old -- gathered together to be a part of Bike Montclair's 2005 Tour de Montclair, a non-competitive ride that started at Watchung Plaza yesterday and included among the masses, our very own Debbie Galant. Scot Surbeck brings us a photo album of the event. See anyone you know?

It's the age-old debate: Should we stop and ask directions?

Biketour5

Where's Waldo Debbie?

Biketour8

Sure it's non-competitive, but these kids mean business.

And they're off...

Great pictures and reportage, Liz. But the headline is wrong. Not "bikers," but bicyclists. There's a big difference. These were mild ones, not wild ones. I was stopped in my car while they went through, it was a nice-looking, happy group, but they were obviously all up for ice cream post-ride rather than a few cold ones at the Great Notch Inn.

That was a joke for you, my friend, our resident "biker." I knew you'd be one me like grits and gravy. You didn't disappoint...

who says bicyclists can't be edgy and down a few cold ones?

Who says "bicyclists" can't be "bikers"?

(Besides, is there a "bi" in "motorcycle"??)

The T-shirt should read "One Fewer Car."
As long as we are going to be politically correct, we should be grammatically correct, too.

I would swear that the people in the "Age Old Debate" photo are perusing delivery menus.

How the heck do you eat chinese while riding a bike?

My wife was out on her bike, happened upon the TdM group at Watchung Avenue and Christopher Street, joined in the fun, and came home beaming!

That Scott Surbeck takes a nice picture.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Tour! We hope you all had a ball.

I wish NJ had more dedicated bike trails.

It's no fun to fight the cars, fumes and pedestrians on the street.

What a great way to see all of Montclair! Having been here a mere eight months -- most of that taken up by Fall and Winter -- our family thought we'd seen our fair share of this beautiful town. How wrong we were. The route the organizers came up with -- showing off streeet after street in its stunning Spring glory, left us breathless -- but that may also have been that last leg up Clairmont to Highland!. Thanks to everyone who made this great day possible -- the organizers, smiling traffic cops, the volunteers who registered us and that blastin' rock band at the plaza after the ride.
