...serving up your daily dish.
From the Watercooler (and poster Larry Rosenshein), there's some buzz about Buzz (Aldrin, not Lightyear), questioning why a school hasn't been named after the Montclair native thus far and why the new school to be built (crossing fingers) should carry his name.
"I've been living in Montclair for over 18 years. I've always wondered why we don't have a school named after Buzz Aldrin. Buzz Aldrin is a native of Montclair, went to the Edgemont School, graduated from Montclair High School, went on to graduate 3rd in his class from West Point, got a Phd. from MIT, flew a fighter jet in the Korean War (shooting down 2 MIG's), and, as we all know, went on to be the second man to step foot on the moon. I can't imagine a more distinguished citizen/native of Montclair - one who made sacrifices and put his life on the line for all of us. I would suggest to either name the new school after Buzz Aldrin (if we ever build it) or to name an existing school after him. I realize that none of our schools are named after people, but this is definitely a case where we should make an exception.
I love the idea, especially the image of kids outfitted in school gear emblazoned with the word "Buzz." While we're naming names, what other Montclair residents, dead or alive, might merit a namesake school? And consider incorporating the magnet theme, (a.k.a. the Bobbi Brown School of the Cosmetic Arts).

I'm a little confused. Is Buzz himself pushing for a school to be named after him?
ROC, just think of the school uniforms!

Too funny...I guess who ever posted wanting to name a Montclair school 'Buzz' doesn't know the term 'Montclair's High' which is what we use to call the high school.
Maybe next we can get Budweiser to chip in for part of the Buzz school for the rights to paint their logo on the roof as well.

"Hells Angles" are always much wider than 90 degrees, ROC. Gives liberals some wriggle room.

Or the "Journalistic" Academy of Baristanet Snarks. (JABS)!

Ha! Quite funny, ROC.
I propose naming the school after my hero: Lyndon Baines Johnson Elementary.
There's already an elementary school in Paterson named after Alexander Hamilton. So it's either Lyndon Johnson or Al Gore.

Better idea:
I see that Edison Township doesn't have a school named after Jeremiah Gumbs. (They seem oddly preoccupied with Presidents and Supreme Court justices.) Jeremiah Gumbs was the founding father of Anguilla, who went to Rutgers and worked a good deal of his life as a pipe fitter in NJ, before becoming a world leader in the 1960s when he gave speeches at the UN and presented petitions on behalf of small, third world countries. He only died about a year and a bit ago.
I think we should name the school after him.
