NOW SERVING MONTCLAIR, GLEN RIDGE AND BLOOMFIELD

10-10, Good Buddy

Semi_3 Ok, it's not exactly like a beluga whale wandering into the Delaware River, but how did this big sucker wind up in the Bay Street Station parking lot? It's not like Montclair is right off the Jersey Turnpike. And not only that, how come there's anywhere between one and four rigs parked there every weekend, according to some folks in the Pine Street neighborhood? CJ Griffin, who sent us this picture, said some neighbors have become impatient with the 18-wheelers, and have started circulating "take back the neighborhood" fliers.

We wouldn't want one of these parked in our neighborhood on a regular basis. But apparently a lack of parking places for truckers is a big problem, particularly in the northeast. The government has even written a report about it.

6.2.1 What problems are associated with an inadequate supply of truck parking spaces?

An inadequate supply of truck parking spaces can result in two negative consequences: (1) tired truck drivers may continue to drive because they have difficulty finding a place to park for rest, and (2) truck drivers may choose to park at unsafe locations, such as the shoulder of the road and exit ramps, if they are unable to find available parking. Both of these consequences generate a safety hazard for the truck driver and for other drivers using the NHS.

Right after this picture, a third showed up. Many nights there are 4.

They don't bother me too much, personally. I know a trucker's life ain't easy.

But, they start their loud engines at all times of the night and leave them running for hours. This is what has gotten the neighbors in an uproar. They also block the pedestrian walkway and leave huge craters in the ground (which fill w/ muddy water or ice in the winter - dangerous!!)

So, add these 2-4 semi trucks parked there...in addition to the litter, huge pile of old tires, mud puddles, etc - and, well, Bay Street Station just isn't very well taken care of! Which is a shame, since the building itself is so pretty!

Seems like at least three of us are having a hard time finding somewhere to park to rest tonight.

6.2.2 What problems are associated with an inadequate supply of SUV parking spaces?

An inadequate supply of SUV parking spaces can result in two negative consequences: (1) tired SUV drivers may continue to drive because they have difficulty finding a place to park to shop; while they are driving, they are unable to buy $300 colanders or $6 chocolate chip cookies thus depriving Montclair merchants of their livelihood, and (2) SUV drivers may choose to park at unsafe locations, such as the entrance to the BOE where appointed board members will kidnap them and make them watch four hours of Powerpoint presentations on class size, if they are unable to find available parking. Both of these consequences generate a safety hazard for the SUV driver and for other drivers using the NHS

Clearly they are part of the Remsen Crony Machine to get such preferential parking treatment!

Did you know, for example, that Remsen's campaign manager once bought a box of marshmallow "peeps" from Target which were freighted on an 18 wheeler!

All those trucks are driven by guys in the same union! You do the math!
