April 7
...serving up your daily dish.
Forget the Star-Ledger's Pulitzer and Phil Read's daily scoops on Montclair, the real reason to pick up a Star-Ledger today is to see their story on how the famous twins in a 1967 Diane Arbus photo showed up at the Met 38 years later to see the picture in real life. They wound up creating a huge buzz, signing autographs on posters in the museum gift shop, but it appears that only the Ledger got the story.
Although the picture above is ubiquitous on the web, you'll have to get the actual dead-tree version of the Ledger to see what the twins look like today, although we'll do our best to describe it. They look as much alike as they did before, but now they're middle-aged, of course, with blonde-highlighted curly hair. And they dress alike, wearing identical tan khakis.
Despite the image's Gothic creepiness, the twins have turned out to be the very models of normalcy. Both married and had children -- Cathleen, two boys and two girls; Colleen, two girls and a boy. They live in Central Jersey, talk on the phone every day, play in a bagpipe band, go to the same hairdresser and have the same favorite food (chicken).

Interesting.
(That chicken part I would not have guessed, though.)

I can't help but think of The Shining when I look at this photo. Very cool.

Miss M-
Have you seen the current Arbus exhibit at the Met? If not, run- don't walk...it is simply stunning. Runs until the end of March.

Pam; Yes, I am dying to get over there...I think you mean end of May, though. March has come and gone.
