Baristaville must really exist -- after all, we're making the "reality" shows often enough. First it was Elaine and Moose, then Paris and Nicole. Now, we've made it to a TLC show called "Moving Up," which is about upward mobility and the hideous things people do to your house after you sell it to them.
This show may actually have more reality than some of the others. In an episode that aired Saturday night (and repeats tomorrow at 8 pm and 11 pm), a couple from Brooklyn moves to Montclair. Stop the presses! Anyway, we hear (from Sloan Berman, who saw the show) that there's a huge controversy over some red wallpaper.
If you can stand the excitement, tune in and let us know what you think: is the red hideous... or not?
I saw the should and I really can't say that the 'controversy' was all that.
The previous owners too a long time to pick out this wallpaper and it only took about an hour for it to come down.
Overall the show was pretty cool and I was impressed that all 3 parties agreed to be on air.

No, the red wall paper was really beautiful. The current owners (from Brooklyn) Have very different taste then the previous owners. I happened to love how the current owners decorated the 100 year old victorian.

I was misquoted. I didn't say there was a "huge controversy" over the red wallpaper. I was just trying to explain the Brooklyn couple's dislike of the bold red color in the entranceway (the shade that the outgoing Montclair family had worked so hard to perfect) and how fast they stripped the red wallpaper and painted both a neutral shade of off- white after moving in. An entertaining show. Just wondering where the Montclair family moved to (I don't think they said).

Sloan - it turns out the Montclair family moved to Glen Ridge.

Hi,
I'm the current homeowner of the Montclair house and just wanted to mention that our paint colors weren't off-white. They were a light sage green, gold, and a taupe. The lights they used during the filming really blasted out all the color. By the way, we thought the old colors were great too, but had to change them because they just didn't go with the furniture and artwork we brought with us from Brooklyn! Of course, there'd be no show if we didn't make dramatic changes.

Lisa, you're a good sport for being willing to go through your renovation publicly. Welcome to Montclair. You have a very special house. Hope you enjoy it.

Just found out the show aired, but haven't seen it. We lived in that home from 1985 to 1996 (moved from Bklyn) and did all the major work on it, including the large kitchen addition. It is in fact, a very special home, and we were very sad to leave it. We moved less than a mile away to another wonderful home in Montclair when our family simply outgrew it. But we still have a great love for it. I am very happy to see what the new owners have done to our old home. It was my "funky farmhouse" and now it's theirs. I can see it is in very good hands, and now I won't feel quite so sad every time I drive by.

SYNOPSIS:
TLC’s hit show MOVING UP is now casting for season two!
After a successful first season for host Doug Wilson’s (TRADING SPACES) new home decorating show, we are again on the hunt for people who want their chance to get on TV.
We are looking for anyone buying a home: first-time buyers, families moving to a bigger home, or couples downsizing to a smaller property. We need families with outgoing personalities or unique taste in design—people who would love to be on TLC!
The new home must still be occupied by the sellers and still reflect the current owner’s furnishings and décor. The buyers should have plans to change the décor right away.
A twist in the show is that not only will we follow the first buyers into their new home, but we will also follow the sellers to the home where they will be moving. We will visit with the sellers of that home too!
More information about the program is on the TLC website:

We appreciate your help – thanks!
