December 16
...serving up your daily dish.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Montclair deputy mayor Joyce Michaelson and Glen Ridge mayor Carl Bergmanson, who reminded the congressman (in a joking way, of course) that the hospital is in Glen Ridge -- not Montclair.

It's actually in both, or so my wife and I were told when our daughter was born there last year.

In spite of what you might have heard, every square inch of Mountainside Hospital is in Glen Ridge.

it use to be that the maternity ward was in Glen Ridge--but most of the rest of it was in montclair....i am talking over 40 years ago, when it was just a littler hospital.

Yeah, Carl, but if you google to find the hospital, it says Mountainside Hospital - MONTCLAIR, NJ.

Touche' Ed! See you in the am.
cshel:
I believe this to be a very local urban myth, the hospital has always been completely in Glen Ridge, if you look at the map, it's clear. I would add that in spite of its precise location, Glen Ridge has always been proud to share Mountainside Hospital with Montclair.
I should also add that the mailing address is in Montclair, as is the parking garage, so is a tiny portion of the nursing school (<10%), and the sign on the corner is probably at least partially in Montclair (I'd have to get the tape measure).
To clarify what was said, the Congressman said "Mountainside Hospital in Montclair/Glen Ridge", then looked at me and asked if it was ok to say that, and I said "sure." Then, looking down, he said "right now I'm standing in..." and I said "Glen Ridge, absolutely", which got a laugh, then he said "I guess you're saying I'm not good at geography", which got a bigger laugh (which is as it should be, he's the congressman).
