Horror, Science Fiction, Action and Adventure, Drama -- those are all the categories that Moviefone assigns to the new Dennis Quaid movie "The Day After Tomorrow," which opens, well, actually tomorrow.
That's the big summer blockbuster-to-be on global warming, and if you watch the trailers, you'll see great gales of water flooding familiar NYC landmarks, people screaming and trying to outrun the waves and, ultimately, the Statue of Liberty turned to ice. All of which should make you think twice about complaining about the possibility of a shower on Monday.
Well, environmental groups are panting about all that on-screen weather mayhem, and the "Day After Tomorrow" Memorial Day Weekend tie-ins are starting. NJ-PIRG, the public interest lobbying group, came out with a news release today charging that consumers will pay twice as much for gas on their Memorial Day junkets than they have to because of misguided government energy policy. And this is related to Horror Weather because of.... well go to the website that PIRG has set up to capitalize on the movie. They'll explain it.
(The Barista guesses that your Memorial Day grilling isn't going to help the ozone layer either, but we've yet to receive a press release on that. So fire away.)
